Pico Lyer talks about the beauty of knowing where home is. He states the fact that when we don't have this sense of feeling that were in a secure place we feel vulnerable. In the book Of Mice And Men, George constantly traveled from place to place to work. They never really had a home except for when they lived with Lenny's aunt. Lenny, just like Mr. Lyer would never feel a sense of security when they didn't feel like they were where they belonged. So in a sense, Lenny's coping mechanism, which got him in trouble all the time, would be to touch soft things. Lenny never knew the life of someone who was settled and felt home. Its a sad thing that he died with such a false sense of hope of something that he'll never know.
